How to choose the correct sound protection

A common trait of autism is oversensitivity to sound. A noisy environment is not only overwhelming to your kid on the spectrum, but it can also be very tiring and cause stress and anxiety.

Wearing a noise protection device can help your child receive fewer stimuli and allows the user to be more comfortable in a loud environment.

A child that has been diagnosed with autism spectrum disorder (ASD) often has sensory processing disorder and cannot tolerate hearing certain sounds. You may see them lose control of their behavior, run away from a certain sound, or place their hands over their ears when their environment gets too loud. Often, they are diagnosed with having hypersensitive hearing or auditory hypersensitivity.

If you kid is on the spectrum, it is possible that he/she will process the information they are receiving from their senses differently. Instead of filtering out sights and sounds that aren’t important, they hear each and every sound around them.

Using a hearing protection product can help them filter out the noises that aren’t important, so they can focus on what they are doing and have fewer triggered behaviors.

Here at Bright Autism, we provide 2 different types of Sound Protection Products that will help your child to effectively block loud sounds but still allowing them to hear everything clearly and easily communicate with those around them.

  1. Vibes Earplugs for Autism
  2. Autism Earmuffs

Vibes Earplugs for Autism

Unlike foam earplugs and earmuffs that block and muffle sounds, Vibes reduce the volume of loud environments to a safer and more comfortable level, while still allowing you to hear everything clearly and easily communicate with those around you.

Parents with children on the spectrum know that there are often many situations where your child finds himself uncomfortable from the noise level. These earplugs not only help to reduce the sound level, but they also let your child safely hear everything around them instead of just muffling and blocking the sound.

Vibes' clear design makes them virtually invisible, making them much more discreet than standard hearing protection.

Autism Earmuffs

Perfect for kids on the autism spectrum for blocking out crowds and other triggers.

Designed with noise-dampening sponge, soft ear cushions and solid ABS ear cups that seal around your kids ears, this ear protection ensures a Noise Reduction Rate of 22 decibels. Ideal for blocking noise caused by large crowds, airports, sporting events, garden and household tools, or any other troublesome noise.

  • My 15 year old son is on the spectrum. He gets overwhelmed when the world gets loud. These earmuffs help to turn that noise down. They fit comfortably, which is important because he can be very picky about what goes over his ears.

  • I bought these Vibes for my autistic, sound sensitive daughter. She is now able to function in her school classroom with these unobtrusive ear pieces instead of her bulky headphones. Great invention!!

  • We love Vibes!! We always have a pair. My son with high functioning Autism has been using them. They really help him be successful at school. Because they are almost invisible, they don’t draw any attention (important in middle school) but they manage the extra noise that would overload his sensory system. He also used them on our flight across the country. Thanks!!

  • My 13 y/o son with autism went to his first middle school dance last night and had a wonderful time thanks to these awesome Vibes earplugs! Nobody knew he was wearing headphones, so kids came up and spoke to him and he was able to hear them along with the music. These earplugs allowed him to enjoy and participate without being excluded. Would highly recommend them!
